The state government had appointed Kalam as the first visitor of the proposed university under the University of Nalanda Act, 2007. The Bihar assembly unanimously approved the University of Nalanda Bill, 2007, in March 2007 for the setting up of an international university. The bill stated that the international university would strive to create a world free of war, terror and violence.

A first information report has been lodged against Janata Dal United leader and Member of Bihar's Legislative Assembly Anant Singh in connection with the murder of contractor Sanjay Singh. Sanjay was shot dead in broad daylight, at Boring Road in central Patna, on Tuesday. Police sources said that Sanjay, who is related to Anant Singh, also had a criminal background. Anant Singh, a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has 21 criminal cases pending.

Sources said that the chapter on Lalu, titled Mitti ke Gaurav (pride of the soil), will be removed from the Hindi textbooks for class VIII from the academic session beginning in April. Instead of a chapter dedicated to Lalu, students will now read about the life and work of Mahatma Phule, a social reformer and educationist of the 19th century.
